A New Chapter Begins

Internship at Ruifeng: Empowering Skills, Launching Dreams

In June 2024, three students from the Caozhi Special Education Program successfully passed the interview for the "Ruifeng Vocational Empowerment" project, organized by the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation. After months of careful preparation, they embarked on an exciting new chapter in their professional journey alongside other program participants at Ruifeng.

1. A Fresh Start

On September 20, accompanied by Party Secretary Gao Weihua and their homeroom teacher Gao Jiani, the students attended the opening ceremony of the Ruifeng Vocational Empowerment Fund (JOBB) Project.

At the event, the three students showcased their baking skills, presenting freshly made bread that filled the room with a delightful aroma. The guests were deeply impressed by their craftsmanship.

With this milestone, the seeds of their dreams were quietly planted. In this very baking classroom, they are set to embark on their journey towards fulfilling their aspirations in the art of baking.

2. Building Dreams Through Skills

"Today, we give it our best!"—This motto continues to inspire the three students, who approach their daily baking lessons with great enthusiasm and anticipation.

Under the patient guidance of their instructors, the students delve into the world of baking, mastering fundamental theories, precise ingredient measurements, and the intricate techniques of artisanal bread-making.

In the classroom, the teachers’ meticulous instruction is met with the students’ focused dedication. Outside of class, they diligently review their lessons and complete assignments, refining their skills with each passing day.

Today, they can skillfully craft a variety of French breads, including braided bread, Kaiser rolls, bow knot bread, multigrain bread, country loaves, whole wheat toast, and Brioche figures—each a testament to their growing expertise.

Bringing their beautifully baked creations back to school to share with teachers and classmates has become a proud moment. The exquisite craftsmanship and delicious flavors leave everyone in awe, making their progress even more meaningful.

3. Enriching Experiences

Beyond perfecting their baking skills, the students also engage in diverse hands-on experiences.

During China’s National Day celebrations, they visited a historical education site, where they explored the essence of red culture and witnessed Shanghai’s remarkable transformation over the years.

In mid-October, the three students participated in the annual Fall Carnival at Shanghai American School. The bustling event featured food, handmade crafts, interactive games, and captivating performances. The students took on various roles at the booths—introducing the program, enthusiastically selling baked goods, and managing the cash register.

Initially, nervousness crept in, but with the warm and patient support of those around them, their confidence grew. As the bread sold successfully, their excitement and sense of achievement only deepened.

Gratitude and Future Aspirations

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who continues to support and care for students with special needs. Your kindness has paved the way for a broader learning journey in baking.

We hope that the students in the Ruifeng program will cherish this valuable learning opportunity, maintain their dedication, and face future challenges with determination. Through their efforts, they will give back to society and spread gratitude and love!
